it shocks me sometimes. my thought process. the little slivers of hate that manage to trip through my brain at the most inconvenient hours, those being the ones where i am supposed to be calming down, in preparation for my entry into the land of nod.
the relevant example being, how much i would love, deep down secretly, to write a hate letter to so many individuals in my life. a letter detailing those characteristics and tendencies about them that make my blood boil, my hands itch to slap them, my tongue burn and long to slash their self-esteem to shreds. terrible, i know. but it's true, and i hope that my admittance of the truth might be the redeeming quality in this not-so-disney post? anyway i'm sure there are those who are secretly curious to know what some of these aforementioned letters may say. and while i am not going to fully unleash my inner bitch and write in full said letters, as this is my blog which i hope some people still read, and as i have neglected it for so long, i shall disclose a line here and there without revealing the intended recipients, or getting too personal. i hope you appreciate this and that nothing is taken the wrong way.
"it amazes me just how f***ing judgemental you still are, who are you to sit on your high horse and condemn the world, you do realise you are so far from perfect yourself, that you could not even see perfect in the horizon with a top-of-the-line telescope?"
"some days, it's just pure amusement to me the way you apparently believe that you are just so entertaining. if you had a brick wall behind you and an audience before you, we could make a fortune selling tickets to 'naive, the comedy'. "
"really? it's been six months since high school and you still haven't grown up and realised that you. are. an. adult.?! honey, i want to have a front-row seat to your induction into the Real World."
"yeah, okay, but if it were HER inviting you? you'd probably, most definitely go. or at least consider trying. "
"so, are we really 'Biffles' or are you only 'here for me' when it suits you?"
"aww, i miss you too. i wonder how many other people you've said that to and followed through with, 'we should catch up, it's been too long!'. save it for someone who believes you. "
"don't be sorry. it's your decision. bull !@#*ing sh!t. could you GET more subliminally judgemental?"
you get the picture. and it's not a pretty one. caricature artists of the French revolution could produce more attractive scenes than the ones sometimes flitting through my overprocessed brain. a big bag of weird does not even begin to describe the beginning of what goes on in there sometimes. hmm, perhaps i should take up yoga or whatever the neurotic's answer to AA meetings are, give the attic a good spring cleaning. or would kick-boxing be a more appropriate solution. and so my dear fellow bloggers and blog-readers, i hereby invite you on the comments section of this post, to express your views, whether they be opinions on the twisted inner-workings of my mind, or perhaps just use it as an open, anonymous forum to vent your spleen (to use one of my favorite cliches) in the way of some of your own one-liners from guiltily considered hate letters. remember, there is no judgement here.
Do zobaczenia.

the past

so this is how i shall be dressing in the summertime, i have decided. i just love the pretty pattern in this skirt, and this year i'm all about being comfortable and stylish at the same time. i love the cute modern-meets-hippy vibe of this whole outfit, especially the lacy bustier top, which adds a unique twist to the overall boho look. the heels, polished nails and dark red pout provide a subtle contrast with the carefree feel of the skirt and brown accessories, which, come to think of it, is kind of the look that i myself like to channel a lot of the time. i think this girl pulls it off quite nicely. kudos. and remember, it's all in the details ;) xx

"camera obscura"
i just absolutely adore everything about this image. this amazing human being is from pretoria, south africa, what some would call my 'mother country'. south africa is indeed a beautiful place despite what one might hear about it being 'dangerous'. i have been there twice and various members of my family numerous times and we have all returned completely and utterly unscathed, and the people and food and scenery and everything there is just beautiful. anyway, i just love the subtle contrasts between textures in this ensemble and the way the similar earthy tones pull it all together, the sequinned vest giving the outfit that something special without going OTT. i also like that this look is quite achieveable. kudos to this girl. 7 days of jumper day 6... ze jumper which i bought :)

if you love this jumper or are a fan of cute op-shop or vintage clothing but are a broke uni student like myself, then please check out BUS Vintage at their facebook page http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1539322591#!/brokeunistudentsvintage or their ebay store http://shop.ebay.com.au/brokeunistudentsvintage/m.html?_nkw&_armrs=1&_from&_ipg&_trksid=p3686 where you can snag yourself a treasure like this. :) big big kudos to mandy and lucy at BUS Vintage for finding this amazing jumper, and also to my best friend emily may for taking the photo :) location: wilson botanic park, wearing BUS Vintage jumper, cotton on skirt, liebemini tights, glassons flats (aka my emergency flats), vintage bag and necklace.

14 days of jumper...day 5 (and an apology)

darlings i am deeply sorry for my neglect of ze blog, however i have been rather on the busy side as of late. as such, i am changing 14 days of jumper to 7, so as to more quickly finish the series so that i can move on and post other things.
so, apologies. 14 days was probably a bit much anyway.
so day 5 of the series features an unexpected find, a jumper not originally intended to feature in the series but i just love it and the way it's been put together in the outfit, which i found on lookbook.nu
i just love the subtle mix of grunge, vintage and preppy in this look, and it can be achieved quite easily, with a boat-necked jumper in a bold colour (i love this burnt orange but mustard or red would work quite nicely also), a white blouse with a large collar and some cute denim shorts over tights and boots the same colour as the tights so as to keep the focus up top. i'm also quite a fan of these boots, and was very close to purchasing a pair myself recently. perhaps i still will. i also love the bag and hat, speaking of which i recently bought a great bag online that will feature on this blog hopefully soon (well as soon as i remember to buy camera batteries)
anyway that's all from me for now. xx

14 days of jumper...day 4
firstly darlings, an apology, as my blog has been sadly neglected so far this week, due to a horrible thing called exams. fortunately, these are finished for the time being, so i thought i'd celebrate by showing you all this delightfully different knit by aubin and wills. it caught my eye because of the stripes and the unique shape, as well as the fun buttons on the shoulder. i'd pair this with a denim mini and a bright red trench for a fun, nautical-meets-british look, with perhaps a cute redor white beret to top it off. the best part is, it's probably not too difficult to find a similar style in a store near you. enjoy. xx

14 days of jumper...day 3
so darlings. today's 14 days of jumper installment features this beautiful classic style miu miu jumper with a unique but subtle twist, being the bow at the back. i just love how something so simple can make this classic style and neutral colour look that bit more special. actually, i just adore most things miu miu, and this jumper is no exception. i personally am not a jeans girl, but this knit paired with skinnies, a pair of heeled boots - ankle or thigh-high or perhaps just some great black suede stillettos and a messy bun would make a perfect weekend ensemble. that's all for me today. it's short and sweet because time isn't really on my side, and to overdo this post would be to spoil the beautiful simplicity of miu miu.

14 days of jumper...day 2

good morning darlings (or should i say good afternoon, i just slept in!) and welcome to day 2 of 14 days of jumper. today's gem is a gorgeous chunky patterned charcoal knit from general pants, which you can buy for $140 at http://www.generalpants.com.au/store/womens/jackets--vests/no-more-fade-jumper-1000032521.html i love this because of the texture and detail (i'm a fan of texture) and the colour is divine and would go quite nicely with this season's khakis and other neutrals. alternately, it would look lovely brightened up with a happy floral print such as a skort. another perk to the jumper is that it can help extend the life of your summer wardrobe in the colder months, by layering it over a maxi dress, or shorts with tights.
however, if you are like me and therefore a broke uni student, take heart because this post comes with a pearl of wisdom as to how to stay warm, look hot and maintain a friendly relationship with your bank balance. the answer is simple in three little letters. d-i-y!
head down to your local craft store for wool, knitting needles and a pattern resembling the jumper you desire (i suggest lookig through stores or the internet for the knit/s you love first and keep them in mind when looking for a pattern) and get knitting! many craft stores such as spotlight tend to carry patterns and ideas for how to replicate the latest looks, so you should be able to find something you like quite easily.
if you don't know how to knit, ask your mum, grandma, aunty, whoever. i'm sure there'll be someone who will be more than happy to teach you. or if you don't have the time/patience to do it yourself, you could buy the wool and enlist your grandma/mother to do it for you, as again i'm sure they'd be happy too, though it might be nice to take them out for coffee and cake or present them with baked goods as a thankyou afterward. knitting is actually not too hard, and can be quite fun when you get the hang of it. it does take a bit of time, but your wallet will thank you when you're done, and when you're out and about sporting your cosy new knit, and people ask you where you got it, you can grin proudly and say 'i made it myself'. or pass the credit onto whoever made it for you. either way, it's a lot more gratifying than forking over $80+ for something you can have for a lot less. well that's all from me darlings, study calls. kiss kiss!
ps. an alternative to d-i-y is to head to a market or op shop and have a look through their knit section, you're guarunteed to find something for almost nothing. good luck xx

14 days of jumper...day 1
so darlings, i have decided to do a series called '14 days of jumper' because i absolutely adore the gorgeous knits we've had this winter. they are just beautiful. it might not be 14 consecutive days but i'll try and keep it within a small a time frame as possible. we'll start out with something interesting, just to set the ball rolling. this knit from elle shop, which i believe is japanese, but i stand corrected, caught my eye because of the texture and the cute flowers on the front. it's not overdone, but not boring either. i think the nice neutral colour keeps it from looking too busy, while the rich cream shade makes it look as warm as it possibly is. i also love the shape, like many others that are out right now, it's just very flattering and suits most shapes i think. i would personally pair this with my black maxi skirt, to keep the attention on the detail of the jumper. some granny boots/oxfords, maybe a hint of wooden jewellery and a touch of gold or bronze and you'd be good to go :) ps. if you really love this and have $185 to spare, you can buy it at hfm.co.jp
femme fatale limited edition
i just adore everything about this outfit. except maybe the shoes, i just personally am not a fan of gladiators... but the rest of it is great. classy cas t-shirt, cut off shorts, gorgeous apricot blazer, accented perfectly with a tan belt, trilby and bronze/gold jewellery. just. love. juliet from austria's right on the road to ab fab sweetie darling. fantastic photography too. makes me want to travel.

'86 prom, david, manlia
'castings', nigel, hong kong
'shuffling', andre j, manlia. for some reason i just love this...'contrast', clement louis, paris (aka my future husband)
the boys sure know what they're doing these days. oh, how i love well-dressed men, don't you? it seems from my extensive research on lookbook.nu, the males from manlia in particular are exquisitely stylish, not to mention unique. personal favorites of mine are cardigans, blazers and button-down shirts. hopefully their aussie counterparts will lift their game eventually. in other news, i now must go to manlia, to find a man. that is, if clement louis won't take me. which he will. fingers crossed. kiss kiss!

"Not that I give a hoot about jewelry. diamonds, yes. but it's tacky to wear diamonds before you're forty"
...said the always wonderful and marvellous, not to mention utterly and entirely fabulous Audrey Hepburn, in her flawless performance as Holly Golightly in 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'. which was of course penned by the brilliant Truman Capote, but... i digress.
darlings, today's pearl of wisdom (well i hope it's wisdom, perhaps it's a bit pretentious to assume so?) is tinged with sadness, because i lost mine... hopefully just temporarily. it is...

SIGNATURE 'THING'. WHAT MAKES YOU UNIQUELY YOU
in effect, what's that one thing about you that makes people say 'that's her thing' or 'that's so you'?
so, you must know what i'm talking about. Blair's headbands... Holly's huge sunglasses... Gwen's platinum blonde hair... Miranda's white Hermes scarf for those of you who have read The Devil Wears Prada. i could go on forever, but i won't. you probably already have it, that one thing that makes you YOU. if you don't create it. it could be anything. a nail polish colour, a certain pair of shoes, a favorite hat. mine, of course, is the 'versatile scarf' as my friend calls it. actually, i have two, which i alternate between, and usually wear in my hair. it's a recent development, as of this year, and i love it. it goes with everything, i where it everywhere, and it just adds a bit of interest to my outfit, whatever that may be. it's a way to put your own stamp on things, so to speak. it helps to define your style. and in the immortal words of Yves Saint Laurent, "fashion fades. STYLE is eternal." kiss kiss!
